Dear Phil,
The South West of England is one of the first area to go digital in 2009 with the analogue signal being switched off in the spring of this year. Planning for this in our Care Home back in early 2008 we thought that providing free view boxes for our Residents was the way forward so we introduced an experimental number of boxes into five of our 16 rooms. The users’ ability to cope with two remote controls was immediately evident – confusion rained! Even the introduction of multi use remotes failed to achieve customer satisfaction as the need to press buttons to move between TV and freeview box controls was problematic.
We at Didsbury Court as an ‘excellent’ rated Home belief in providing the very best in lifestyle package for our elderly Residents and we had to find a better way forward. When driving around Torquay one summers’ day I spotted a ‘HotelDigitalTV’ van parked outside of a Hotel. I made a note of the telephone number and contacted the Company to enquire of their product and service. Subsequent to this I was contacted by Mr. Phil Woods, the Managing Director of HotelDigitalTV, who made a sight visit and quoted for the installation of a digital TV package which would provide 19in/ 22in LCD flat screen televisions in all our rooms with the associated electrics nicely hidden in the attic.
The installation was planned for the late autumn and was completed at the end of November with the absolute minimum fuss and disruption. Apart from superb signal reception and ease of operation which received immediate plaudits from our Residents the televisions enable us to lock certain programming features so that accidental pressing of the wrong button on the remote cannot lose the tuning. Additionally, we were able to select a maximum volume so that one Resident cannot effect the enjoyment of another by turning the volume up to an unreasonable level.
The feedback that we have had from both Residents and their families has been 100% positive and we have no hesitation in recommending this system to other Homes.
